Chapter 6 (From my notebook)

Previously in Chapter 5: Jane and Gabe have survived their first day of ENE. But on the bus to home, they have a horrible ride that can be tossed out the door, literally! Plus, steaming arguments start to spark between Free and their Mom.

Jane and I endured many more long, treacherous weeks at ENE and Free's apartment. We were noticing he was quite merciless, yet Mom treated him as if he were a million bucks.
One restless night we heard Free and Mom arguing again.
"Guess what, Free?" Mom started.
Free turned his gaze to her and mumbled, "What?"
"I've collected enough money to rent a house." Mom grinned at him.
"There a catch?" Free mumbled. Mom nodded.
"You're not coming, The day my children and I move you will not be part of our lives."
Free shrugged. "Like it here anyway."

The next few days Mom seemed to be more optimistic. She was usually smiling, but shunned Free out of it.
But the longer we stayed, the worse Free's apartment was. Jane and I would try to enjoy the little time we had between bedtime and arrival from ENE playing card games Mom had bought from her shop.
Finally, one gray morning Mom told us to pack up. Jane and I gladly obliged, no comments.
And about three hours later we all stood at the curb with Free. A woman was supposed to get us.
"Well, Free, good knowing you," Mom smiled.
He nodded aloofly and squinted at the road. He was obviously eager for our ride to come. He walked until he hit the middle of the road.
Jane and I had already sad goodbye to him and wondered what exactly what he though he was doing.
Suddenly, a black blob appeared in front of Free and...BAM!
Mom's eyes grew to the size of saucers. People started coming from their apartments wondering what in the world was going on. Free had been ran over and was a scarlet colored mass upon the road.
Jane and I knew people would accuse Mom or one of us of pushing him to the big bus that had immediately zoomed by, giving Free no apparent time. "M-mom, the p-people," I muttered. She just stared at Free's silent, bleeding body.
A car parked right in front of his body. It was a blue sedan. Mom jumped into it; Jane, me, and all.
